Dear Friends,

Todd A. Heywood – The Michigan Messenger
Please stand with me and other Americans to urge the US Congress, state and local representatives, as well as community groups to advocate for the immediate removal of public websites on the internet that spread hate speech and hate driven content. This is an action that can’t wait another day or year. Please utilize the letter or ACT NOW link below to inform your government officials about your concerns regarding harmful content that threatens the safety of all Americans and the innocence of our young people.
Hate speech should not be protected under the First Amendment. Websites like http://www.vdare.com/ and http://www.natvan.com/ can’t be allowed to violate cyber bullying laws, the Hate Crimes Act and the Civil Rights Act.
Our young people can’t be subjected to the possibility of reading such toxic material. With internet usage among young people rising to 25.4 million according to a national survey conducted in 1999 by Grunwald Associates and the National School Boards Foundation, the need for increased hate speech enforcement has never been greater. Are they vulnerable? Yes, and the Leadership Conference, a non-profit group that advocates for civil rights, says hate groups are increasingly using the internet to recruit middle class young people. Additionally, the Partners Against Hate published some alarming statistics:
33% of all known hate crime offenders are under 18;
31% of all violent crime offenders and 46% of the property offenders are under 18;
29% of all hate crime offenders are 18-24;
30% of all victims of bias-motivated aggravated assaults and 34% of the victims of simple assaults are under 18.
The percentages of hate crime offenders among young people under 18 years of age and 18 to 24 years old will only increase if advocates like you do not take a stand against hate speech. We will continue to witness a trickle down effect, and the proof can be seen in the national news. For example:
Please join me in making sure your, my and our young people are protected from hate speech masked as a First Amendment right!

I am writing to urge you to support the removal and banning of hateful and violence provoking websites, such as http://www.vdare.com/ and http://www.natvan.com/, from the internet on the grounds that it violates cyber bullying laws, the Hate Crimes Act and the Civil Rights Act. The kinds of language used by their writers and comments expressed by their readers should not be protected under the First Amendment and sounds a lot like hate speech. Though I believe in the First Amendment right of free speech, these types of toxic rhetoric must not be allowed on the internet for our young people to access.
These types of websites also present a harmful risk to the public at large. They help to fuel the kinds of violent and racially motivated acts that plagued our country from the 17th century to the 1960’s, and today. Racially motivated acts such as, Zachary Beck, Kory Boyd and Lawrence Silk of Washington who beat an African American man because of his race and for talking to a White woman.
The next African American beaten, for example, could be your or my friend, colleague or family member.
Additionally, these types of websites present a risk to our American young people surfing the internet daily by the millions. Are we protecting all American young people? How can we be so sure until its too late if you don’t take a stand? The Partners Against Hate have published some alarming statistics:
33% of all known hate crime offenders are under 18;
31% of all violent crime offenders and 46% of the property offenders are under 18;
29% of all hate crime offenders are 18-24;
30% of all victims of bias-motivated aggravated assaults and – 34% of the victims of simple assaults are under 18.
The percentages of hate crime offenders among young people under 18 years of age and 18 to 24 years old will only increase if leaders like you do not take a stand against hate speech. Also, data from the Cyberbullying Research Center says:
“58% of young people have not told their parents or an adult about something mean or hurtful that happened to them online.”
One of those 58% could be the next horrifying case of a child beaten to death or committing suicide because they were targeted based on their race, religion, ethnicity, sexual orientation or disability.
Its up to you and your colleagues in Congress to take a stand against such vile content and protect all American citizens, especially young people, from criminal websites that promote violence and bullying through hate speech.
Kind regards,
